In 2011, we drove through Covington, GA for the first time. We stopped at a few of the filming locations used in the first five episodes of the Dukes of Hazzard. The most interesting one was the original Duke farmhouse. About two weeks after we visited, I understand that the building was leveled due to safety concerns, and now the only thing that remains if the fireplace and chimney. When we were there, the house from the show had been partially dismantled, and within the structure a civil war era cabin had been found. Once they realized the history of that inner structure, they had stopped the demolition to consider options. I consider us fortunate that we made it through when we did. From what I understand, within the portion of the house that was the cabin was the living room where several scenes played out in the first five episodes.
