This week’s photo was taken in 2014 at North Wilkesboro Speedway. The speedway has been closed since 1996, with the exception of a few events almost 10 years ago. Sadly, the speedway was purchased by owners of other tracks, and dates were taken to larger markets, leaving this jewel of NASCAR’s history to waste away. At the time of our visit, the caretaker of the property was very generous with his time, and allowed us to not only enter the grounds, but sat with us in the stands and told stories from his many years on the property. Since this time, we understand that visitors are now discouraged due to insurance restrictions.
